"Silenced in the Incelosphere" is a graduate research project at California State University San Marcos that explores how women experience and respond to self-identified incels (involuntary celibates) online. While much of the existing research focuses on incel communities themselves, this study centers women’s voices—those who have been directly targeted or affected by incel-related interactions on platforms such as Reddit, Discord, X (Twitter), and others.Through confidential, one-on-one interviews, this project seeks to understand how exposure to incel subcultures shapes women’s emotional well-being, digital participation, and sense of safety online.By sharing your experiences, you will help illuminate a largely overlooked aspect of digital gender-based violence.
If you express interest, you will receive a detailed informed consent form that explains the study’s purpose, procedures, potential risks, confidentiality, and your rights as a participant before deciding whether to take part. There is no financial compensation for participating, but your story will help shape future research and awareness on incel-related harassment and women's online safety.Principle Researcher: Alexandra Ariza ([email protected]) Faculty Supervisor: Brandon Moore ([email protected])
